Professional Introduction
The Big Data Management and Application major in our university is one of the 25 institutions approved by the Ministry of Education to establish this major in the second batch in 2018. It began to enroll students in 2019. This major originated from the undergraduate major of Information Management and Information Systems (formerly Economic Information Management) established in 1987. In terms of discipline classification, it belongs to Management Science and Engineering. In 1998, the Degree Office of the State Council approved our university to establish a master's degree authorization point for Management Science and Engineering. In 2010, it was rated as a key discipline at the university level. In 2023, the university incorporated the Big Data Management and Application major into the School of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, strengthening interdisciplinary integration, actively introducing high-level teaching staff from home and abroad, implementing the "Undergraduate Tutor System" throughout the four years of study, and integrating internationalized course content and industry-university-research cooperation elements to achieve a talent cultivation model centered on innovative practice. The major aims to provide urgently needed big data talents for national management departments at all levels, industrial and commercial enterprises, financial institutions, and scientific research units.
Cultivation Objectives
This major adopts the cultivation model of "Solid Foundation, Emphasis on Management, Deep Integration, and Precise Application", aiming to cultivate well-rounded talents with comprehensive knowledge, abilities, and qualities. These talents should be able to meet the needs of economic and social development in the big data era, have a good theoretical foundation in economics and management, and possess the thinking ability of science and engineering. They should master the basic theories, analytical methods, and management skills of big data, be familiar with relevant knowledge in the financial and economic fields, be able to creatively solve data application and management problems in the fields of economy, finance, management, food, etc., and have a sense of social responsibility, innovative spirit, practical ability, and international vision.
Features and Advantages
1. Full-course Tutorship: This major implements the "Undergraduate Tutor System" throughout the four years of study. Each student in each grade is assigned an academic tutor, an academic research tutor, and an enterprise tutor respectively. These tutors are composed of backbone teachers in the college and industry experts, providing guidance in aspects such as academic planning, scientific research practice, and career choice.
2. Internationalization Pilot: Some courses in this major are taught in English or bilingual. Students can participate in international exchange programs such as "2+2" and "3+1" to promote short-term or long-term study and exchanges.
3. Industry-university-research Integration: Relying on multiple experimental and scientific research platforms such as the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of our university, this major conducts industry-university-research integration activities through scientific research competitions, academic seminars, internships, and other means to improve students' comprehensive practical abilities.
4. Personalized Cultivation: A personalized cultivation plan that can be flexibly designed according to the development needs of each student is provided. This enables students to master various data analysis and decision-making methods for economic management activities using big data technology, realizing a talent cultivation model centered on innovative practice.
Teaching Staff
This major actively introduces high-level teaching staff from home and abroad. At present, there are 11 full-time teachers, including 2 professors, 3 associate professors, and 6 lecturers. They are from well-known domestic and foreign universities such as Tsinghua University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology, Beijing Institute of Technology, and Renmin University of China.
Core Courses
The basic course module includes Algorithms and Data Structures, Database Principles and Applications, Discrete Mathematics, Introduction to Artificial Intelligence, etc.
The economic and management course module includes Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Management (Bilingual), Accounting, Statistics, Econometrics, etc.
The big data technology course module includes Python Programming, Machine Learning, etc.
The big data application course module includes Big Data Business Analysis, Data Mining and Business Intelligence (Bilingual), Financial Data Mining and Business Intelligence, Financial Risk Management, Big Data Analysis Training, etc.
Practical Teaching
This major has established a four-level comprehensive practical teaching system of "Course Experiments + Scientific Research Design + Internships and Training + Graduation Design". It provides practical teaching for undergraduate students in professional courses such as data mining and big data comprehensive training. Relying on the national and provincial-level platforms of our university, students are guided to participate in national and provincial-level scientific research projects. The "Second Classroom" practical links are designed, such as various activities of the Entrepreneurship and Practice Association. Internship bases have been established in cooperation with enterprises such as Tianjian Xingye - ZhiPingYun, providing undergraduate students with opportunities for visits, inspections, and internships.
Employment and Further Studies
This major is a full-time undergraduate program with a four-year duration. After completing the required courses and credits, students will be awarded a Bachelor of Management degree. This major pays attention to the needs of students for postgraduate entrance examinations, studying abroad, and employment. Students in this major have many opportunities for further studies. They can continue their graduate studies in big data analysis, data science, and other related fields in famous universities and research institutes at home and abroad. They can also work in various organizations such as national management departments at all levels, industrial and commercial enterprises, financial institutions, and scientific research units, engaging in big data information analysis, platform development, application development, operation and maintenance management, and decision-making consultation. Graduates have gone to well-known universities such as Beijing Institute of Technology and Minzu University of China, as well as enterprises and financial institutions such as Baidu and Bank of Beijing.
