Electrical Engineering and Automation

  1. Program Introduction

The Electrical Engineering and Automation program(EEA) at Beijing Technology and Business University(BTBU) was established in 1997, boasting a rich history and deep academic foundation. Anchored in the field of electrical engineering, the program integrates emerging disciplines such as big data and artificial intelligence. It focuses on "one integration" (combining strong and weak electrical currents) and "two cultivation directions" (Building Electrical and Intelligence, and Renewable Energy and Microgrid). The program adopts a student-centered, teacher-guided, and inquiry-based teaching model, emphasizing the development of students' innovation skills and their ability to solve practical problems.

  1. Training Objectives

EEA is committed to supporting the national "Dual Carbon" development strategy and aligns with the university's mission to serve Beijing's roles as the "Four Centers," the "Two Zones," and the "Three Platforms." Targeting talent demands in the power, energy, and construction industries, particularly in the context of national and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development, the program focuses on cultivating high-caliber engineering and management professionals. Graduates are expected to possess strong professional ethics, excellent communication and collaboration skills, a solid foundation in natural sciences and electrical engineering, and the ability to engage in scientific research, technology development and application, production operation and maintenance, and engineering organization and management.

  1. Features and Advantages

The EEA is distinguished by its interdisciplinary and multi-field integration, featuring a strong foundation, broad applicability, and exceptional versatility. It not only plays a critical role in the power industry but is also widely applied in fields such as rail transit, building design, and intelligent equipment manufacturing. Under the framework of emerging engineering education, the specialities emphasizes a solid professional foundation and the cultivation of practical and innovative abilities. Students consistently achieve outstanding results in competitions, with high employment and postgraduate enrollment rates. In recent years, the specialities has ranked among the top in the BTBU's employment quality reports, frequently securing the highest combined rates of employment and graduate school admission.

The EEA has established university-industry collaboration internship bases with organizations such as State Grid Corporation of China, XJ Electric Group, and Yanshan Petrochemical. Additionally, it maintains close academic exchanges and cooperative relationships with international universities. Students have the opportunity to participate in the BTBU's "2+2" or "3+1" international exchange programs.

  1. Faculty Strength

The EEA currently has a dedicated teaching staff of 10, including 1 professor, 5 associate professors, and 4 lecturers, with 3 serving as master's supervisors. Seven faculty members hold doctoral degrees from renowned universities and research institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nankai University, Southeast University, Hunan University, and Beijing Institute of Technology. Four faculty members have overseas study and training experience at prestigious universities in France, the Netherlands, and Ireland.

In terms of teaching achievements, the program has won four second prizes for Beijing Educational and Teaching Achievements. The course Fundamentals of Electric Machines and Drives was recognized as part of the first cohort of course-based ideological and political education projects and as a high-quality undergraduate course in Beijings universities.

In research, faculty members have led or participated in over 20 national and provincial projects, including the National Key Research and Development Program, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Beijing Natural Science Foundation, and general projects funded by the Beijing Municipal Education Commission. Over the past five years, they have published more than 200 papers in high-impact journals and conferences and have been granted over 30 national invention patents.

  1. Core Courses

In alignment with the training objectives and knowledge structure requirements for application-oriented talent in Electrical Engineering and Automation, the program adheres to the principles of "strong foundation, broad scope, multiple directions, and practical application." It has established a comprehensive curriculum structure, encompassing general education courses, foundational discipline courses, core professional courses, specialized direction courses, professional development courses, and practical training components.

Core courses include Signals and Systems, Electromagnetic Fields, Principles of Automatic Control, Fundamentals of Power Systems, Microcomputer Principles and Interface Technology, Fundamentals of Electric Machines and Drives, Power Electronics Technology, Transient Analysis of Power Systems, Electrical Control and PLC, Principles and Applications of Microcontrollers, Measurement Technology and Instruments, Electric Drive Technology, Building Automation and Integrated Cabling, Building Electrical Design, and Microgrid Operation and Control.

  1. Employment and Further Education

Graduates of EEA possess a solid foundation and align well with societal talent demands, with clear employment directions. They play a critical role not only in the power industry but also in fields such as rail transit, building design, and intelligent equipment manufacturing. The EEA boasts high employment and postgraduate enrollment rates.

In the university's employment quality reports over the past decade, the combined employment and postgraduate admission rates have consistently ranked among the highest, achieving the university's "369" target ahead of schedule. The postgraduate and overseas study enrollment rate exceeds 50%, while the employment rate surpasses 100%, securing the top position university-wide on multiple occasions.

In terms of employment, graduates secure positions in a wide range of organizations, including State Grid Corporation and related enterprises, power generation companies (such as China Datang Corporation, China Guodian Corporation, China Huaneng, China Huadian Corporation, and CPI Power Engineering), power equipment manufacturers (NARI Group, Beijing Sifang), design and research institutes (focusing on electric power, architecture, and water conservancy and hydropower), rail transit departments (China Railway Signal and Communication Group), and other large state-owned enterprises and institutions (Beijing Cigarette Factory, China Telecom, and the People’s Bank of China).Graduates also find opportunities in multinational corporations (such as Schneider, ABB, Siemens, and Hitachi), as well as in Beijing’s party and government agencies, universities, and research institutions.

In terms of further studies, the EEA has consistently ranked first in the university for postgraduate and overseas study enrollment rates. The percentage of graduates pursuing advanced degrees at prestigious international universities has steadily increased over the years.

Graduates have been admitted to renowned domestic institutions such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nankai University, Beihang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Hunan University. Internationally, they have pursued graduate studies at prestigious universities including George Washington University, Johns Hopkins University, Northeastern University, University of Southern California, University of Edinburgh, University of Stuttgart, and University of Sydney.
